Mike Moroney has grander plans in store for his impressive debut Sandown winner Alaskan Rose.

The daughter of Encosta De Lago streeted her opposition in claiming The Grand Hotel Frankston Handicap (1300m) on Wednesday with Moroney talking up black type plans for the filly.

Sent out the $4.20 favourite, Alaskan Rose scored by 4-1/2 lengths from Overstay ($7) with Eclat ($5) 1-1/2 lengths away third.

Moroney, whose brother Paul parted with $150,000 to purchase the filly as a yearling, has the Group One Thousand Guineas at Caulfield in October in mind for the three-year-old.

"Today was the starting point," Moroney said.

"We'll start planning now and that's (Thousand Guineas) the right way to head.

"We'll have to plan our way of getting there now."

Moroney said Alaskan Rose was a little off-set in the knees and he had taken his time getting the filly to the racetrack.

But he said she has been a real professional in the way she has gone about her work.

"She looks like she's pretty bombproof," Moroney said.

"We've had her out the back in her trials and its good to see she's got a little bit of speed there that we were able to use.

"She was very professional.

"Watching her straight on, she went straight as a dye for a first starter and that's been her all the way through."

Moroney said his brother thought Alaskan Rose was the best filly at the New Zealand sale, to which he agreed, and she hasn't let the stable down.

He said the time given to the three-year-old to mature had been beneficial and he's expecting her to continue on an upward spiral.

"Fingers crossed ... if she stays in order, she's got a future," Moroney said.

Winning jockey Steven Arnold said he was impressed with Alaskan Rose's quick turn of foot.

"It's the first time I've really gone all out on her," Arnold said.

"She'll really ripped from the 400 metre mark.

"It's her first go and she's given some winners weight and she couldn't have been more impressive.

"They can't do much more than that and it's worth having a go at some better ones and see what happens."
