Velrosso has joined the growing list of ex-Sydney horses sent north and will make his Queensland debut for new trainer Matt Dunn at Doomben.
Velrosso has been given equal top weight of 58kg in Saturday's Queensland Home Solutions Open (1200m) at Doomben.
The now seven-year-old Velrosso will be having his first start since his eighth in the Group Three Yellowglen Stakes won by Hucklebuck at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day.
A $240,000 yearling, Velrosso won more than $500,000 when trained by Chris Waller, with his biggest win coming in the 2014 Magic Millions Cup at the Gold Coast.
However, a leg injury as a two-year-old and a series of other problems have restricted his career to 24 starts so far.
Part-owned by Magic Millions boss Gerry Harvey, Velrosso hasn't won since the Magic Millions Cup.
"He has had a few problems but thankfully he seems fine since he arrived with us. He hasn't even had a cough after a gallop," Dunn said.
"Chris told me he had the potential to be a top-line horse. I hope he can live up to that."
Velrosso had a trial at Murwillumbah two weeks ago and wasn't knocked about to finish second.
"He might need a run to reach his best but he pulled up well after the trial and he has pleased me since," Dunn said.
"I have had a few horses for Gerry over the years and hopefully Velrosso can give us some wins."
Meanwhile, Dunn has spelled promising three-year-old Dram of Red after the gelding was beaten at the Sunshine Coast.
Dunn had been toying with the idea of heading to Sydney with Dram of Red to tackle the Group One Golden Rose at Rosehill next month.
"In the end we felt the better option was to set him for the Magic Millions carnival," Dunn said.
"His Sunshine Coast run wasn't in character with his first two wins."
"He can have a break now and come back for the Millions Guineas in January."
