Peeping looking to return a winner

Thursday 13 August 2015, 1:28pm

Ron Quinton will look to one of the most promising horses in his stable to uphold his recent purple patch of form at Rosehill on Saturday.

Peeping will step out for the trainer in the Fairfield Club RSL Hcp (1200m), her first appearance since an autumn carnival campaign that netted a stakes win over Saturday's course and distance.

Despite his boutique numbers, Quinton has been a frequent visitor to the winner's circle this winter.

He has led in four city winners in the past three weeks, including his first Saturday metropolitan double at Canterbury on July 25.

Peeping is unbeaten first-up and Quinton can find no reason the mare won't keep that record intact.

"She had a nice trial and I'm expecting her to run pretty good on Saturday," Quinton said.

"She is running against some open company horses but (rival) Kirramosa has never looked like a sprinter and it is only a benchmark 90 race."

Quinton said Peeping was likely to have a restricted spring campaign with a long-term view towards next year's autumn races in Sydney.

Saturday's assignment will be a starting point for the John Sargent-trained Kirramosa whose career has been interrupted by injury since her win in the 2013 VRC Oaks.

The mare has raced just four times since then, most recently in the Group One Caulfield Stakes in October.

Sargent says Kirramosa has been healthy and sound this preparation and he is keen to eventually get her to Melbourne.

"All things going right she'll go to Melbourne and the bigger tracks down there, hopefully we can get her over a mile-and-a-half," Sargent said.
