Jockey Glen Boss says punters should expect every other Melbourne Cup to head overseas.

Boss, a three-time Cup winner on Makybe Diva, says Japan poses the major international threat for this year's race because "whatever they bring across are very, very good racehorses".

Last year's winner, German-trained Protectionist, was the third international horse in five years to win the Melbourne Cup.
