Legendary racehorse trainer Bart Cummings will receive a public memorial service at Flemington Racecourse, the home of his unrivalled 12 Melbourne Cup victories.
Cummings, who died on Sunday aged 87, will be farewelled by the Melbourne racing community at Flemington on September 12 with the service to start at 1030, before the Group One Makybe Diva Stakes meeting.
"We invite all Victorian participants and punters to Flemington on Saturday week to bid farewell to Bart, a man whose training feats captured the hearts and minds of people for half a century," Racing Victoria chief executive, Bernard Saundry, said.
The tributes to Bart Cummings will begin this Saturday at Moonee Valley where the annual Group Two Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) is run.
The race is named in honour of the Malaysian businessman who owned a number of Cummings Cox Plate and Cups winners and was one of his biggest supporters.
Tributes will be broadcast throughout the day on the track's big screen and a condolence book will be available for participants and punters.
A state funeral for Cummings will be held in Sydney on Monday.
