The only people disappointed with Revitalise's return to form are those chasing the handsome gelding as an equestrian horse.

Revitalise was one start away from retirement when he won at the Sunshine Coast on July 29.

The striking black-grey gelding then made it two wins in a row when he won at Doomben on August 15.

Revitalise, who has been at the forefront of the Meagher training partnership's great start to the season, will have his first crack at open company in the Pure Jali Handicap (1640m) at Doomben on Saturday.

Co-trainer Dan Meagher said Revitalise had come perilously close to being retired after he failed in a weak race at Murwillumbah in June.

"He just wasn't firing and we decided to try one more thing. So we sent him to Peter McMahon (an Olympic equestrian) at Kolora Lodge and he worked with him for a week," Meagher said.

"Then we got him back and changed his diet which saw him lose 10 kilos. Also we switched his training to a treadmill rather than traditional trackwork.

"He seemed to respond to it and was able to win a pretty ordinary race at the Sunshine Coast. But his next start at Doomben was good."

He said Revitalise was at a disadvantage in open company because he was still only a benchmark 75 horse.

"But he is back in form, the distance suits and it isn't the strongest of races," he said.

There is no doubt Revitalise will end his days as an equestrian horse when he retires.

"A few people were disappointed when he got back into form because they were after him as an equestrian horse."

"Peter (McMahon) will probably end up with him as he is also keen to use him as show hore," Meagher said.
