Rudy's Randwick credentials are impressive with his two runs at the track producing a Group Two win in the Villiers Stakes and fourth in the Doncaster Mile.

But Gold Coast trainer Helen Page believes he has struck a stellar year for his next assignment in the Group Two Tramway Stakes (1400m) on Saturday.

Offsetting her concern, overnight rain has put the track in the heavy range.

"He likes it either way but hopefully it might slow up some of the opposition," Page said.

"It's the toughest Tramway I've seen for a while but this is the race for him in the program we have to get to the Epsom.

"I think he's come back well. We gave him a race up here and he did well under a big weight.

"It's topped him off.

"So all in all I'm happy. He gets through the wet. He likes Randwick and his second-up record is good."

Rudy kicked off his latest campaign with a third carrying 58.5kg over 1350m at Doomben on August 22.

He has since travelled well to Sydney and is stabled at Randwick.

"He is there already and I'll come down on Saturday morning but all reports are he is very well," Page said.

One thing will be different for Rudy on this visit with Kerrin McEvoy to ride for the first time.

Leading Queensland apprentice Luke Tarrant has been Rudy's partner on his previous two visits to Sydney but Page has opted for a change this time around.

"We've been very happy with Luke's rides on Rudy but we just went for a change," Page said.

"Luke's one of our best riders up here and he had ridden Rudy well.

"But if you can get a jockey like Kerrin McEvoy with his international experience then you go with him."

First Seal is the $3.60 Tramway favourite with Rudy a $17 chance, in from $21 on Thursday before the rain came.

The John Thompson-trained First Seal is the TAB's $8 equal favourite for the Epsom Handicap (1600m) alongside Doncaster Mile winner Kermadec and Pornichet who both contest Saturday's Chelmsford Stakes (1600m).

Melbourne Cup winner Protectionist is a $17 chance in the Tramway as he kicks off his spring campaign.
