Donna Grisedale made her first visit to Brisbane as a trainer on Saturday and went home a winner when cheap buy Skip Course scored impressively.
Grisedale, the wife of former Sydney jockey Jon Grisedale, had not been to Brisbane since she worked as a strapper for the late trainer Jack Denham.
However, she plans to make more trips north after Skip Course ($10) scored by a half length to the favourite I Am Boss ($3.80) in the Boston Salon Handicap.
Grisedale trains 18 horses at Kembla Grange after working for several years with some of Sydney's top stables.
"My husband works with me these days and things are starting to come together," she said.
"We were able to get Skip Course for about $3000 at an Inglis tried horse sale and he has shown us a fair bit," she said.
Meanwhile, classy mare Nardoo, the $2 favourite, gave her new owners a quick return when she won the UMS Handicap.
Trainer Brendan Mackay said he had high hopes to build his new training venture at the Gold Coast around Nardoo.
"I finished up training for the Waverley Park complex who owned her this week. Luckily I was able to put a syndicate together and bought Nardoo three days ago," he said.
