On a day when Bart Cummings was remembered at racecourses around the country, one of his longest-serving workers has prepared a winner at Moonee Valley.

Leon Corstens, who spent 23 years working for Cummings in Melbourne until starting on his own in 1994, was in the winner's stall on Saturday after outsider Boogielicious caused an upset in the Jeep Handicap (1600m).

Corstens trains in partnership with his son Troy.

Leon Corstens paid tribute to Cummings, the 12-time Melbourne Cup-winning trainer, who died last Sunday.

"I definitely think his feats will never be accomplished again," Corstens said.

"He was a great man and an absolute champion."

Boogielicious started at $51 and raced to a 1-3/4 length win over favourite Mossbeat ($7) ahead of an impending date at stud.

Corstens said Boogielicious had missed getting in foal to Starspangledbanner last year and was booked to return to the stallion.

"She's super-fit and healthy and that's what's won her the race today," Corstens said.
