Snow Sky is on course to break new ground for owner Khalid Abdullah by becoming the Saudi prince's first runner in the Melbourne Cup which will be his next start.

A dual Group Two winner in England trained by Sir Michael Stoute, Snow Sky had a one-mile (1600m) work-out at Newmarket last week and will shortly enter quarantine.

"The plan at this stage is to take Snow Sky to the Melbourne Cup where he will head without a prep (run). Sir Michael had half thought about the Irish St Leger for him but thinks it best if we keep him fresh," Teddy Grimthorpe, Prince Khalid's racing manager, said.

"It's exciting for the Prince as we certainly have not had a runner in my time with him and as a dual Group Two winner we think Snow Sky has more to give at the top level."

Prince Khalid is the owner of Juddmonte Farms and is best known for racing champion Frankel.

Two years ago Juddmonte sold one-time Melbourne Cup favourite Sea Moon, who had a similar profile to Snow Sky and was also trained by Stoute, to Australian owner Lloyd Williams.

He finished 13th to former stablemate Fiorente in the Melbourne Cup in 2013.

He failed to adapt to Australian conditions and has returned to Europe where he is now trained in Ireland by John Oxx.

Snow Sky is on the fourth line of TAB betting on the Cup at $18 with Japanese horse Fame Game the $8 favourite.
