Leilani Lodge's future would appear to be in safe hands after James Cummings trained another winner at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

Two days after the racing industry farewelled his grandfather Bart Cummings, James produced Way Too Good to win the Tab.com.au Handicap.

It was James' third metropolitan winner in the 10 days since Bart's death.

Way Too Good held off a strong challenge from Falkenberg to claim her maiden win.

Heavily backed to start favourite at $3.20, Way Too Good defeated Falkenberg ($4.60) by a head after they waged a two-horse battle for much of the home straight.

Ritzy ($8), trained by James' father Anthony, finished 2-1/4 lengths away third.

James Cummings was quick to credit Glyn Schofield for Way Too Good's breakthrough victory.

"She's done a good job to win a city maiden and beat a filly of (Falkenberg's) calibre," Cummings said.

"But I love the way Glyn was able to pop her out quickly, get away from the fence and settle outside Kerrin McEvoy, who had drawn outside him.

"It was a great tactical ride."
