God's In Him has snared his third successive win, returning from a winter freshener to beat Nevagotavote in a photo finish at Rosehill.
The Jason Deamer-trained Nevagotavote led from the start at Rosehill despite flying under the bookies' radar ($20), and looked to have Saturday's 1400m race locked down until God's In Him ($5.50) roared through in the final stages.
Crossing the line alongside each other, it took a photo finish to determine the Hawkes-trained gelding had won by a half-head.
It was the six-year-old's first race since his win at Randwick in late June.
"We had to wait until the last to get the job done and he's just ... we've had some issues, ups and downs," co-trainer Michael Hawkes said.
"But the horse looks a picture and he's a serious horse."
Hawkes said the Group Two Shannon Stakes at Rosehill in a fortnight would be the gelding's next goal.
"It takes a good horse to do a 1400 metres first-up and then continue on," he said.
