On a weekend that belonged to Galileo, the champion sire ended it on a high with Mondialiste (5h Galileo x Occupandiste, by Kaldoun) winning the Grade I Woodbine Mile in Canada on Sunday.
Following on the back of earlier Grade I wins in Ireland and the UK for Bondi Beach, Order of St George and Minding, Mondialiste put the icing on the cake!
Winner of the Group III Strensall Stakes at York and Group I placed in France at three, Mondialiste has always shown ability, but produced the biggest win of his career when storming home from back in the field to snatch a half-length win in the one mile feature on turf.
“He is very tough. You can ride him whatever way you want really,” said winning trainer David O’Meara.
“He’s always sort of there for you when you go for it. He always finishes well. Everything sort of looked good with him, but it is always a concern when you fly him that far from home, like eight hours or whatever we’ve come. But fantastic, a great run.”
Mondialiste is a half-brother to Group winners Impressionante, Only Answer and stakes-winner Planetaire being from champion French Miler Occupandiste.
He is also a three-quarter brother-in-blood to Galileo’s Group I Prix du Jockey Club winner Intello
