Protectionist will be one of two George Main Stakes runners for Kris Lees as the import tries to rediscover the form which led to his 2014 Melbourne Cup win.
Lees has also paid up for Lucia Valentina, while John O'Shea will have two runners in Sweynesse and Hauraki.
ATC Australian Derby runner-up Hauraki has drawn the outside stall.
Glyn Schofield will replace the suspended Glen Boss aboard Doncaster Mile winner Kermadec, one of 10 horses paid up for Saturday's Group One race at Randwick.
It will be the first time Schofield has partnered Kermadec in a race.
Trainer Chris Waller will also run Warwick Stakes winner Royal Descent and Moriarty, the latter coming up with the inside draw.
Waller paid up for nine horses in the Group Two Hill Stakes including Victoria Derby winner Preferment and Melbourne and Sydney Cup placegetter Who Shot Thebarman.
The Shorts has attracted a mix of established and up-and-coming sprint stars headed by Group One winners Terravista and Hot Snitzel and the in-form Shiraz for trainer Tony McEvoy.
