Ruling Dynasty has stormed home for a 1600m win at Randwick to set himself up for a stakes race at the end of the carnival.

The James Cummings-trained entire ($6) powered along the inside to surge to the lead late in the TAB Rewards Handicap, beating Godolphin pair Sabkhat and Farolitos by a neck and a short head respectively.

Jockey Tommy Berry was in awe of the four-year-old's run.

"From the pick-up to do what he did in the second half of the mile, it was just extraordinary," Berry said.

"He's a lovely big horse who could be a Cups horse - maybe not this year but certainly next year."

Cummings said the four-year-old's win in his second race back from a winter spell was encouraging.

"We've been very patient with the horse. He's a real work in progress but he sliced his way through the field," Cummings said.

"For a big horse that's the sort of thing that gets you very excited and bodes very well for his future."

Ruling Dynasty's next step will be the Craven Plate in two weeks time, with a view towards the City Tattersalls Cup in mid-October.

"He's going to relish the step up," Cummings said.

Ruling Dynasty was beaten less than four lengths when sixth in Mongolian Khan's Australian Derby with the winner among the leading contenders for the Melbourne Cup.
