Popular Sky Channel racecaller Alan Thomas will retire at the end of the year.
Thomas said he would broadcast his last race on Boxing Day before embarking on a real estate career at the Gold Coast next year.
Beginning his career in radio in the 1960s, Thomas headed Channel Nine's Brisbane sports department in the lead-up to the 1982 Commonwealth Games.
He spent 13 years at the Nine network before joining Sky Channel as its leading race caller in Queensland.
Thomas called several other sports including boxing and rugby league's State Of Origin matches as well as the three codes of racing.
