Country filly Miss Amajardan wins in town

Saturday 17 October 2015, 2:16pm

Dale Miller almost knocked back the chance to buy Miss Amajardan because at $6,500 he thought she was too cheap.

She is looking an even bigger bargain now after taking her prize money to more than $83,000 with victory at Randwick on Saturday.

Trained by Jenny Graham at Port Macquarie, the filly won the first two-year-old race in NSW for the season at Armidale last month and came to town to take on the big league.

Although she was well supported from $6.50 to $4.60, punters still thought the international Godolphin stable had the winner in either Morton's Fork ($4.20) or the favourite Pyx Chamber ($4).

But Miss Amajardan showed her professionalism and held Morton's Fork at bay by a length to win the Victory Vein Plate (1000m) with Pyx Chamber another 2-1/2 lengths third.

"I liked the sire Hinchinbrook but I never expected to get her that cheap," Miller said.

"In fact I thought she was too cheap and no-one else wanted her but eventually I bought her."

Graham was at the Gold Coast on Saturday with another stable runner and Miller said he would discuss future plans over the next few days.

"I'll talk to Jenny but we might put her away now and then get her ready for some of the better races early in the new year," he said.
