A horse who turns up for work early every morning and a trainer who is also an accountant combined for a rare win at Sandown on Wednesday.
High Kingczar added the KS Environmental Handicap (3000m) to his modest record thanks to a perfect ride from Dwayne Dunn and his ability to run at a moderate pace for an extended period.
A winner of five races before Wednesday's, his previous victory came 12 months ago.
"He's no superstar, but he's a great old horse," trainer Michael Ryan said.
"He loves everything about racing. He's there waiting for me at the gate every morning ready to go to the track."
High Kingczar is one of three horses Ryan trains at Cranbourne and is his second city winner.
His other, Edging Out, won two races, but her greatest distinction was in carrying Darren Beadman into second place in a stakes race at Moonee Valley on Cox Plate Day 12 years ago.
"That's the sort of thrill you can get in racing," Ryan said.
"There's nothing like it."
Sent out favourite, High Kingczar ($4) scored by 2-3/4 lengths from Phizup ($15) with St Roper ($11) a further five lengths away third.
