Victorian Ben Thompson has won the Apprentice World Championship final in Abu Dhabi.
Thompson rode against apprentices from Belgium, Canada, France, Ireland, Italy, Puerto Rico and Russia in the 2200m race for Arabian horses on Sunday night.
Thompson won a heat of the series in Kentucky in May and gained an inside run aboard his mount Ak Adour in the straight to claim the final on Sunday.
He started his apprenticeship with Michael Kent and has since transferred his indentures to Allan Williams, father of champion jockey Craig.
Racing Victoria CEO Bernard Saundry congratulated Thompson on his success.
"These trips have been a great opportunity for our apprentices to develop their global network and learn about different cultures which will do so much for their professional development in racing," Saundry said.
