Trial to decide Sinopia's debut

Monday 9 November 2015, 4:27pm

Many trainers would baulk at running an early season two-year-old four days after a barrier trial, but it's a method that has worked in the past for Gerald Ryan.

Sinopia will contest a 900m-heat at Rosehill on Tuesday with a view to backing up at the same track on Saturday.

"I did the same with Danbird and Hot Snitzel before they made their debuts," Ryan said.

"It doesn't worry them and it's on his home track so it's not like he has to travel.

"He is a big, tallish horse but seems to have speed and as long as he pulls up well from the trial we will race him."

Sinopia is by first season sire Dream Ahead, a five time Group One winning sprinter in Europe with a rating equal to Frankel in his two-year-old year.

Ryan has also brought Red Excitement back from Melbourne to run on his home track in the November Handicap (1350m) on Saturday.

The six-year-old failed to handle the track at Flemington on October 31 when he finished 12th, beaten nine lengths, in the Group Three Guvera Stakes (1400m) won by Disposition.

"It was the same old story," Ryan said.

"He just won't let down on wet tracks and I'm sure he will be better suited here."

Cartier Rock is also likely to stay at home rather than travel to Melbourne for Saturday's meeting at Sandown where she is nominated for the Listed Twilight Glow Stakes (1400m).

"She will probably run in the benchmark race here," Ryan said.

Stablemate Solicit will run at Sandown where she has been entered for the Sandown Stakes (1500m) and the Summoned Stakes for mares over the same distance.

"She will most likely run in the mares race with Kerrin McEvoy to ride," Ryan said.

The on-pace Solicit was a close second to La Passe in the Group Two Tristarc Stakes at Caulfield on October 17 before she was run down in the straight when eighth in the Group One Myer Classic won by Politeness two weeks later.
