Jones hoping Snake Gully Cup is a Blur

Thursday 12 November 2015, 12:55pm

Co-trainer Paul Jones is hoping bonny mare Just A Blur can equal the feat of Medicine 13 years ago by winning Friday's Snake Gully Cup at Gundagai.

The Canberra-based Jones trains in partnership with his mother Barbara Joseph who won the feature country event with Medicine in 2002.

Canberra trainers have an outstanding record in the Snake Gully Cup winning it seven times since 1996 and they again hold a strong hand in this year's race.

Jones said Just A Blur had pleased the stable since the mare's last-start sixth at Rosehill on October 31.

"She's freshened up nicely since her luckless 1800 metre run," Jones said.

"She hasn't had a decent gallop since then, just trot and cantered and swum.

"She's fit and well, ready to produce. She's very bright in herself, just where we want her."

Dropping the mare back 400m in distance doesn't phase Jones.

"Personally, I think 1400 metres is her pet distance," he said.

"She is one of my fastest horses in the stable. She works the best in the place and nothing can really go with her."

Just A Blur, who will be ridden by Mathew Cahill, has drawn barrier seven in the field of 12 plus four emergencies.
