Unsafe rail forces Traralgon abandonment

Friday 13 November 2015, 4:46pm

Traralgon races have been abandoned due to an unsafe running rail.

The rail at the 800m mark collapsed before the running of the third and after being realigned, it shifted once more when the field was being loaded into the starting stalls.

Track staff fixed the problem with senior riders Jason Benbow, Brian Werner and Roger Booth happy to ride.

But fellow jockeys weren't satisfied with other sections of the rail.

"There were a lot of base plates that had been stretched and that was the reason the rail fell over initially," Benbow said.

"We went back and had a vote with the riders in race three and it was a unanimous decision that they weren't comfortable to ride with the rail the way it was."
