Former TAB chairman and long-time racing enthusiast Ross Cribb has died at the age of 83.
Cribb joined the TAB board in 1984 and was chairman for a decade from 1987 and deputy chair from 1997. He was also part of the board that oversaw the TAB's privatisation in 1998.
During his time as chairman, Cribb was instrumental in securing live racing telecasts into TAB agencies, pubs and clubs in early 1988.
Cribb was also a passionate owner/breeder and raced the outstanding Heat Of The Moment who was trained by Neville Begg to win two Group One races in the mid 1980s.
"Ross was an extremely popular man who did a great deal for horse racing," Racing NSW chief executive Peter V'landys, said.
"His work as chairman of the TAB and the Racecourse Development Fund was enormous and set the industry up for the future.
"Ross was greatly admired throughout the racing industry and was the consummate quiet achiever. Ross will be greatly missed and we pass on sincere condolences to his family and friends."
Cribb is survived by wife Pam and his extended family. A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday in Cronulla.
