Chautauqua HK trip still to be confirmed

Monday 16 November 2015, 3:18pm

Chautauqua has his vaccinations and passport in order for a trip to Hong Kong but a decision whether he gets on the plane will be left as late as possible.

The highest-rated Australian horse in the recently released World Thoroughbred Rankings, Chautauqua is scheduled to leave on Sunday week for the Hong Kong Sprint at Sha Tin on December 13.

Co-trainer Wayne Hawkes says Chautauqua is in good order and poking around at Hawkes Racing's Flemington stable.

"Everything is fine with him," Hawkes said.

"But confirmation will only happen the day he gets on the plane and there's still a long way to go between now and then.

"He had his final inoculations on the weekend, but he's had them all the way through for the last couple of years.

"He won't be going just to make up a number."

After his win in the Group One Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley last month, Chautauqua was a last-start second to Delectation in the Darley Classic on the final day of the Melbourne Cup carnival.

The Joe Pride-trained Terravista, third in the Darley, will stay at home to be prepared for the autumn.

Rising Romance has also been ruled out of the Hong Kong International meeting by trainers David Hayes and Tom Dabernig.

The mare was entered for the Hong Kong Cup but those plans were aborted after she finished last in the Zipping Classic at Sandown on Saturday.

She was stripped on a foreleg during the race with jockey Damian Lane also reporting she wasn't suited on the firm ground.

Stablemate Criterion, third in the 2014 Hong Kong Cup behind Designs On Rome and Military Attack, is still scheduled to make the trip again.
