Annaman parading at Doomben before his win on Saturday- promising staying prospect
I was thrilled to see Annaman put it together on Saturday at Doomben with Tony Gollan finally being able to get him out to the 2200m trip. He was awesome winning as he liked by 6 ½ lengths. We had always felt he would make a nice staying horse once he matured and Saturday’s effort supported this theory. I know there were times some of the owners of Annaman doubted if he would get to the level we had hoped but now, given the dominance of his win he may well exceed their expectations. It is never easy waiting for these staying types to arrive. I remember some of the frustration we had with Unchain My Heart as she went through the grades but once she got there her owners gained a great deal of pleasure from her. Congratulations to Tony Gollan and his team for a ‘job’ well done with Annaman.
Annaman is by Mossman out of our very good three year old filly Shine On Anna and is the first foal to race out of the mare. Shine On Anna is by Annaba and closely related to the multiple Group 1 winner Contributer. We have a three year old filly out of the mare by Hinchinbrook named Shining Brook with a win to her name although she, like Annaman is taking time to grow into her frame but has displayed nice ability.
DARREN WEIR DOMINATES CARNIVAL
Darren Weir won the Trainer’s Premiership for the Melbourne Spring Carnival with his team’s performances getting better as the Carnival progressed. He has had a remarkable few years but the past two months have been exceptional. He works hard, is a clear thinker but most importantly a superb trainer who knows where to place his horses.
ON THE TRACK
We have a very busy few days ahead of us with runners in three states. Tonight we have Bella Venus resuming at Launceston in a competitive race. She had a good break after her last preparation where she strained a ligament behind her knee but seems right now.
On Friday Bridie’s Brook and Lomazzo are scheduled to start their preparations at Hawkesbury. These are both nice three year olds. On Saturday we see Husson Eagle returning to racing at Ballarat and Makeadane runs at Rosehill. On Monday Shining Brooke and perhaps Brooklyn Lass may line up on the big Scone track.
Brooklyn Lass as a Yearling
I Am Invincible filly out of Belle Amici 2014-
The filly pictured above is a terrific filly by the outstanding young sire I Am Invincible from the well related Catbird mare Belle Amici. I have inspected her four times at Yarraman Park since May and was keen to purchase her. She is a very good type of filly with a good hindquarter, great conformation and a attractive head.
She vetted out without any issues and was reared at Yarraman Park one of Australia’s most well respected boutique nurseries.
The filly is an October foal and will be broken in in February/ March of 2016 with a view to giving her every chance to run as a two year old. She comes from a very precocious family with Belle Amici’s ½ brother Restless winning as a two year old and being stakes placed as well. He was placed in six of his seven starts as a two year old and went on to win 10 races including four at Group or stakes level and $578,305 in stakes money.
The first three dams have had 17 to race with 15 individual winners which is exceptional. To me this looks Belle Amici’s best mating.
