Kerrin McEvoy back in Sydney racing fray

Wednesday 18 November 2015, 3:09pm

After a brilliant back-end to the Melbourne spring carnival, Kerrin McEvoy is preparing to ride at his first Sydney Saturday meeting in almost two months.

McEvoy missed Epsom Handicap day at Randwick through suspension and has spent his subsequent weekends plying his trade on Australian racing's biggest stage.

He watched sister-in-law Michelle Payne become the first female jockey to win a Melbourne Cup then gave the family more cause for celebration when he took out the Emirates Stakes on Turn Me Loose four days later.

The jockey rounded out his spring in Melbourne with a stakes treble at Sandown on Saturday.

"I said at the start of the spring if I get one Group One winner I'll be happy and I ended up snaring the Emirates," McEvoy said.

"Saturday at Sandown was a good day as well. I had some handy rides on paper and I was able to get a few winners home."

The Rosehill meeting will be a change of pace from the intensity of the spring in Melbourne.

McEvoy admits there is a readjustment but he is looking forward to linking with several horses on Saturday, including Caped Crusader who resumes for Gai Waterhouse in the ATC Farewells Jimmy Cassidy Handicap.

The four-year-old hasn't raced since he finished down the track in the Group Two Tulloch Stakes in March.

"He trialled quite sharply there when Thomas (Huet) rode him and he has performed first-up before," McEvoy said.

"The 1500 metres is perfect for him first-up."

Childhood friend Todd Balfour has booked McEvoy to partner Un de Sceaux in the Might And Power Handicap.

The three-year-old broke his maiden at his third start with a victory at his home track of Cranbourne earlier this month and McEvoy would dearly love to deliver another at Rosehill.

"I grew up with Todd and (brother) Ryan when I started my apprenticeship in Adelaide," McEvoy said.

"Their father David passed away last year so it's good to see the family name still in the training ranks."
