The combination of jockey Steven Arnold and trainer Dan Morton are no strangers to Group One success thanks to the deeds of former star sprinter Scenic Blast.
And Arnold is hoping the pair can team up for another feature win with Watermans Bay in Saturday's $1 million Winterbottom Stakes at Ascot.
The jockey won three Group One races on Scenic Blast in 2009, including the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot.
His three rides on the horse have included a Group Three Victoria Handicap win at Caulfield in April and a second in last year's Winterbottom.
"I'm always happy to jump on one of Dan's horses. He's a really good trainer and he thinks Watermans Bay's going well," Arnold said.
Watermans Bay will be having his third attempt at the Winterbottom having finished third in 2013 behind Buffering and second to Magnifisio 12 months ago.
"I rode him in the race last year and I thought it was a great run. I actually protested against the winner," Arnold said.
"It caused a little bit of interference early and I only got beaten a head or something, so I threw in a protest and I thought I might get it."
Watermans Bay resumed in the Colonel Reeves Stakes in Perth earlier this month and finished second, his first start since a three-run Melbourne autumn campaign.
Arnold rates him a genuine chance on Saturday but fears Buffering.
The Robert Heathcote-trained Queensland star has amassed more than $5 million prize money during his career and is the $3.60 favourite with Watermans Bay on the third line of betting at $7.50.
"This is the right sort of race for Watermans Bay, the only one that stands out is Buffering," Arnold said.
"If Buffering turns up in his best shape he's probably got the class edge on the rest of the field.
"But my guy is honest, he's a local, he ran well the other day so I think he's in the mix."
