Apprentice Patrick Moloney has ridden a winner at Ballarat, paying further tribute to his late grandfather Jim Moloney.
Hall of Fame horseman Jim Moloney, who trained champion sprinter Vain, died aged 90 early on Friday morning.
His grandson rode two winners at Moonee Valley on Friday night and he scored again on A Lotta Love in Saturday's Eureka Concrete Handicap (1200m) at Ballarat.
"He's been a huge influence on my career," Moloney said of his grandfather.
"And if it wasn't for him I don't think my dad (Gerard Moloney) or my uncle John would be trainers. I followed them into racing.
"He (Jim Moloney) was obviously was a hall of fame trainer, and not only a fantastic horseman but also a genuine, champion bloke."
Moloney said being able to land a double on Friday night was special with "Pa Jim watching me from above".
"I'm glad that the family were all having a nice dinner that night together and were reflecting on Jim's life and were able to watch me win a couple of races," he said.
Moloney was able to guide A Lotta Love ($9.50) to a long neck win, chasing down $2.45 favourite Estaminet.
