Tiny mare Little Brown Horse broke her frustrating run in stakes races with a last-to-first win in the Arcade Classic at Doomben on Saturday.

Little Brown Horse had 14 previous starts in stakes company for three minor placings but had no luck in many others.

Now a seven-year-old, Little Brown Horse ($19) was last at the 600m but sailed down the outside to beat Tukiyo ($11) by 3/4 length with 1-1/4 lengths to the favourite Fine Mist ($2.10).

Little Brown Horse ran 1min8.57secs which was a race record.

Trainer Kelly Doughty was near tears after the win because she had always felt the mare could go to stud with a black-type victory to her name.

"If any horse deserves to win a stakes race it was Little Brown Horse. She has been so honest and today was her 13th win for us and she has gone past $400,000 in prize money," Doughty said.

Little Brown Horse will race in the fillies and mares races in the summer before having one last fling at similar races in the winter carnival.

"Then she will be off to being a mum," Doughty said.

The win was a great boost for jockey Geoff Goold who has struggled for class rides since coming out of his apprenticeship in June.

It was Goold's first stakes winner and came on his favourite horse.
