Gollan to start fab five in George Moore

Thursday 26 November 2015, 1:56pm

Premier Brisbane trainer Tony Gollan will have a record five runners in the Group Three George Moore Stakes.

Gollan will saddle up Temple Of Boom, Fontelina, Didntcostalot, Casual Choice and Gundy Spirit in the first leg of the Brisbane summer triple crown at Doomben on Saturday.

Chris Waller had 11 runners in this year's Chelmsford Stakes while the late TJ Smith often had six or seven horses in Group One races.

But until now, no Brisbane trainer has had five runners in a stakes race.

"We could have had six as we only decided not to accept with Whiskey Allround at the last moment," Gollan said.

"I think it is a credit to all of my staff that we can have so many horses who are genuine chances in a stakes race.

"It is a team effort from trackwork to programming."

The premiership-leading trainer refused to pick between his quintet but admitted veteran Temple Of Boom was a sentimental favourite.

"Temple Of Boom obviously has a special place in my heart and I would never pick any horse ahead of him," Gollan said.

"He will race through the summer and then hopefully be back in the winter but after that we will have to wait and see."

Fontelina has had two starts for Gollan finishing fifth in a Listed race at Randwick and down the track in a Group Two sprint at Flemington during the Melbourne spring horses.

"He looks well placed here on his first run for us at Randwick. Just completely forget his run at Flemington as he had nothing go his way," Gollan said.

Gollan says his other three George Moore runners also have genuine claims as he looks to make a significant impact during the Brisbane summer carnival.

"I have made it clear on several occasions lately that we want to dominate the summer. I was genuinely disappointed with my effort in the winter," Gollan said.

"So I didn't travel many horses during the spring with the summer in mind."
