Gollan to have four in Brisbane Handicap

Tony Gollan's summer carnival assault continues with the trainer to saddle up four runners, including new stable recruit First Bloom, in the Listed Brisbane Handicap at Doomben.

Gollan will also have Traveston Girl, Best of the Rest and Trakstar in Saturday's race which is the second leg of the Brisbane summer 1600m-triple crown.

There have been four stakes races since the summer carnival kicked off a fortnight ago and Gollan has won three, with Didntcostalot leading a stable trifecta in last Saturday's George Moore Stakes.

First Bloom, a last-start Moonee Valley winner, arrived at Gollan's stable last week from Melbourne Cup-winning trainer Darren Weir.

A group of breeders from Scone in NSW recently bought the mare and sent her to Gollan hoping to get a black-type win before she goes to stud.

"As you would expect she arrived here in fine fettle. She has had two weeks at Washpool Lodge and has been in the stables for a week," Gollan said.

"Her best form is around the 2000 metre mark but she worked well and is ready to race.

"There is also the option of an 1800 metre race for her on Boxing Day at the Gold Coast."

Gollan said Traveston Girl had done very well since she won the Recognition Stakes two weeks ago.

"At the moment she is about as good as we can get her. I would expect her to roll forward and be hard to beat," he said.

"She stays down on the minimum weight after they scaled the race so there should be no excuses."

Best Of The Rest was fourth to Traveston Girl in the Recognition Stakes after coming from last.

"Luck has deserted him this campaign but he is getting close to a win. I have been waiting for him to draw a good barrier so he can be ridden closer," Gollan said.

He said Trakstar needed a dry track to do his best but had worked well.
