Electric Fusion has given Trudi Christie her first metropolitan win as a trainer.
Coming from back in the field, Electric Fusion ($14) was ridden by Jackie Beriman to score a long-neck win in the Yarraman Village Plate at Sandown on Saturday.
A former representative for Australia in the equestrian field, Christie now concentrates on a small team of racehorses.
With husband Matthew, she has set up a 100-acre property in the Yarra Valley from where Electric Fusion is trained.
Having held her licence for a decade, Christie said she had taken a break after the birth of her two children while a riding accident put an end to a career in the saddle.
"I was riding all my own work but had a bad accident off one of the racehorses," she said.
"I didn't know I pregnant at the time, but it was serious fall that left me with a couple of blood clots on my brain.
"I was told I couldn't ride for 18 months and my husband said I shouldn't ride anymore."
Electric Fusion was trained by Robert Smerdon for connections including Phil Sly who lives close to Christie's property.
"Phil is an amazing owner," Christie said.
"He's given me something with a bit of quality to give me a bit of a leg up."
Beriman landed the second leg of a double when Danestroem won the Macpherson Kelly Plate, taking her to within 15 wins of outriding her claim with a month of her apprenticeship to go.
