Breeders' Plate winner Capitalist's first public appearance in two months has left no doubt about the colt's Magic Millions bona fides.
A warm favourite to win the Magic Millions 2YO Classic next month, Capitalist looked classes above his Rosehill barrier trial opposition on Tuesday.
After Blake Shinn allowed Capitalist to settle fractionally off the speed, the 900m heat was all but over as soon as the field straightened .
Shinn barely moved as Capitalist joined the leaders at the 200m and the jockey continued to sit quietly as the colt extended to win by four lengths.
Capitalist is a $3.50 favourite for the Magic Millions on January 9 while also an $8 popular elect to win the Golden Slipper in March.
In clocking 53.20 seconds, Capitalist was the second fastest winner of five heats for two-year-olds.
But he could have easily eclipsed Gimcrack Stakes placegetter Slumber Party's 53.10 seconds if Shinn had wanted more from his mount.
"He has strengthened up nicely during the spell and feels that bit stronger and more furnished this time," Shinn said.
"He will take good improvement from the hit-out, but he is a very athletic, clean-winded sort of a colt that doesn't take long too come to hand."
Capitalist is expected to make his return to racing in the Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Classic on Thursday week.
