Apprentice Dylan Dunn has notched his first winner at Flemington, guiding favourite Tashbeeh to a comfortable victory.
Tashbeeh was considered one of the better bets on Saturday and didn't let supporters down, despite a betting drift in the AVHPA - Vic Trophy.
Dunn earned high praise from Lindsay Park co-trainer Tom Dabernig over his handling of the Commands four-year-old.
Easing from $2.30 to $2.60 favouritism, Tashbeeh held off the challenge of Sadaqa ($11) to score a three-quarter length win with Orion ($13) two lengths away third.
Dunn is the 20-year-old son of multiple Group One-winning jockey Dwayne who was starting to wonder when his first victory at headquarters would arrive.
"I was talking to Dad last night about how I hadn't had my first winner here," Dunn said.
"He was pretty adamant in just staying confident and it will happen in time.
"Having the favourite helped, but also having the confidence of the stable in me is appreciated."
Dunn rides work for David Hayes and Dabernig six mornings a week and said his riding has improved since joining the stable a year ago.
And he said having a mentor like his father was advantage - with a few downsides.
"It definitely helps having him there giving you advice," Dunn said.
"But then you've got the other boys out there giving you a little touch up every now and then because he's given them one.
"He's also a tough marker.
"He expects me to ride as well as him, or better, but I like it like that.
"You're not going to make it to the top if you try and make excuses for every ride."
Dabernig said Dunn was a rising talent and described him as the pick of Melbourne's 3kg junior riders.
As for Tashbeeh, Dabernig said the Listed Lord Stakes (1700m) at Caulfield on Boxing Day could be on the agenda now that he's back in winning form.
"He's one of those horses if you look at his form over his last couple of races, the form around him has been pretty strong," Dabernig said.
"Today he was in the right race."
