Victorian youngster Claro El Banco will be a little lighter when he races at Wyong on Thursday and not for the usual reason.
The two-year-old hasn't been recently gelded - that happened before he had his first start.
It is his tail that has undergone a snip.
Trainer Jason Petch lost his mentor, Epsom trainer Bill Seymour who died of cancer on Monday aged 82.
Petch wants to farewell Seymour with a special gesture and Claro El Banco is his way to do it.
"He was like a dad to me," Petch said of Seymour.
"He will be buried with a little piece of this horse's tail."
Claro El Banco will be making his NSW debut in the Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
The horse failed to beat a runner home at his first start at Flemington when Petch said he didn't appreciate being restrained.
Allowed to bowl along in front at Ballarat, Claro El Banco atoned with an all-the-way win in the Clockwise Classic, earning himself a start in the $2 million Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast in January.
The Wyong race is a pit stop on the horse's journey north but it will be a telling one.
His rivals include Breeders' Plate winner Capitalist, a dominant favourite for the Gold Coast race.
"Thursday's race will be a different kettle of fish to what he's met with Capitalist, Niccolance and Paul Perry's horse (Conchita)," Petch said.
"It will be good to see how he measures up."
Craig Newitt was aboard when Claro El Banco won at Ballarat and travels to Wyong for the ride, his only one at the feature provincial meeting.
Petch says Claro El Banco runs on fear and expects Newitt to again let the horse roll forward from a middle draw in six.
Capitalist has drawn gate three and is an odds-on favourite following an outstanding barrier trial win last week.
He will be joined in the race by stablemate Niccolance, a recent addition to the Peter and Paul Snowden yard which raced greenly when runner-up to Godolphin youngster Astern at his only start for Jim and Greg Lee.
