Tough stayer Volkhere made a mockery of claims he was badly handicapped with his win at Doomben on Saturday.
Ridden perfectly by Melbourne jockey Craig Williams, the favourite Volkhere ($3.30) beat Uno Five ($3.80) by 1-1/4 lengths with two lengths to Hudson County ($3.60) in third place in the Garrards Horse and Hounds Handicap (2200m).
It was the same trifecta as when the trio met two weeks ago and Volkhere was worse off at the weights against the other two placegetters.
Volkhere not only defeated them again, he beat them by a bigger margin.
"This horse holds his form once he strikes it. Last year he finished in the placegetters for about 10 straight runs," Heathcote said.
He said Volkhere would continue to race in similar events before going for a late summer spell.
"We will bring him back for the lesser staying races such as the Chairman's Handicap in the winter. He has won 11 races for us and he is a stable favourite," Heathcote said.
Uno Five's trainer Bruce Hill said the gelding's chance would come after he ran his fourth-straight second placing.
"He is so consistent and surely it is our turn soon," Hill said.
