It wasn't just the human population that welcomed the cool change that swept through Victoria on Sunday.
Simon Zahra, who trains in partnership with Mathew Ellerton, said horses in their Flemington stable appreciated the cooler weather after the extremely hot conditions which resulted in the cancellations of all racing in Victoria on Saturday.
"This morning they were all well and truly off their heads," Zahra said on Monday.
"They're always a bit quieter when it's a bit hot but we've got fans in the stables to try and keep them as cool as we possibly can."
Zahra said the stable worked their horses early on Saturday morning giving the team the opportunity to be calm before the extreme heat.
He said the hot conditions should have no long-term effects.
The stable took four horses to the Echuca meeting last Thursday which was run in hot weather, coming home with three winners.
He said amazingly all horses had come through their runs in excellent shape and were all looking for another run.
"It's a three-hour float trip up and back, six hours all round," Zahra said.
"If you have them fit and well and they have a good base underneath they usually come though it all right.
"You've also got to rehydrate them as quickly as possible."
