NZ training team to set up at Cranbourne

Tuesday 22 December 2015, 5:49pm

New Zealand training partners Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young will have a new home next year.

The pair has been granted 40 boxes at the yet-to-be completed on-course stabling complex at the Cranbourne training centre in Victoria.

Busuttin says the stable has a nice team of horses which will be running through the autumn in New Zealand.

He said they may head to Sydney or Brisbane for autumn and winter campaigns before the opening of his Cranbourne complex in June or July next year in time for new season in August.

"We'll look to get through the autumn here and when things slow down in the winter we'll get over there, get set up and get going for the new season," Busuttin said.

"We'll have a team of about 20 horses we'll be looking at bringing over so with 40 boxes there's room to expand and hopefully attract new clients and horses."

Busuttin said it was no secret the training partners were keen on setting up in Victoria and had inspected facilities at other provincial centres at Pakenham and Mornington along with city tracks Flemington and Caulfield.

"We had a look around a few places and saw the complex at Cranbourne and was impressed by the track set-up," Busuttin said.

"We indicated we were keen to get some stabling if they ever became available and they've given us some."

Busuttin said the pair will not be fully lost to New Zealand racing and will still have an involvement but Melbourne will be the main focus.

"Australian and Victorian racing, we watch it here in New Zealand and it's going from strength to strength," Busuttin said.

"The prize money keeps going up and there's so much opportunity."
