Jockey Ben Melham believes there's improvement to come from the Chris Waller-trained Danjeu who relished a step back up in distance to win at Sandown.
Danjeu was sent out the $3.50 favourite in Wednesday's Bushnell Outdoor Products Handicap, an $80,000 race over 2400m which was added to the midweek program after last Saturday's Flemington meeting was called off because of extreme heat.
The race was added to Wednesday's program to accommodate horses heading to the Bagot Handicap (2800m) on New Year's Day at Flemington.
Danjeu went to the lead at the 200m mark and went on to put a length on Happy As Hell with Swacadelic another 1-3/4 lengths away third.
"He's a nice horse," Melham said.
"It was our plan to be a bit more prominent today and it probably just told on him at the finish.
"He's a nice progressive horse and seems to handle this way of going really well.
"I think he'll improve again off the back of that."
