Randwick Millions clue for Detective

Thursday 24 December 2015, 1:35pm

As the private trainer for Sheikh Mohammed's racing and breeding operation, Peter Snowden never had the chance to run a two-year-old in the Magic Millions Classic.

Now in partnership with his son Paul, Snowden could have four runners in the $2 million race on January 9 restricted to Magic Millions sales graduates.

The Snowdens have the odds-on favourite Capitalist with Detective looking to put his name forward when he runs at Randwick on Boxing Day.

The colt was also entered for the B J McLachlan at the Gold Coast but Paul Snowden said he would stay at his home track.

Detective is currently 18th in the order of entry for the Millions and is a $13 chance with Capitalist the raging favourite at $2.70.

Capitalist was a dominant winner of the Wyong Magic Millions last week and Paul Snowden said they would get a further line through Capitalist when Detective ran on Saturday.

Detective was second to Capitalist at his only start in the Breeders Stakes at Randwick in October.

"Detective probably needs to run in the first three to get into the Millions but he is going well," Snowden said.

The Snowdens other Magic Millions hopefuls are Niccolance, runner-up to Capitalist at Wyong, and Mooshakissa, second to Godolphin's Souchez at Rosehill last Saturday.

Blake Shinn is booked to ride Detective at Randwick, along with stablemate Barood in the McGrath Estate Agents Handicap.

A Canterbury winner earlier this month, Barood is a full brother to multiple Group One winner turned sire Starspangledbanner.

"They're two very good gallopers," Shinn said.

"Barood is a horse who is very well bred and he scored a great win last start.

"Detective has form lines behind Capitalist, although he's probably got to win (on Saturday) to get into the Magic Millions."
