Hill, Orman to combine at Sunshine Coast

Friday 1 January 2016, 12:40pm

In-form trainer Bruce Hill has called on star apprentice James Orman to help change the luck of three of his runners at the Sunshine Coast.

Orman will ride the Hill-trained Uno Five (Open 2200m), Hidden Light (2YO 1000m), and Favoured Grace (3YO 1800m) on Saturday.

Uno Five has earned $83,000 since joining Hill's stable from NSW with a win and four consecutive seconds at his past four starts.

He was twice beaten into second place by Perplexity and then twice more filled the runner's-up stall behind Volkhere in recent weeks.

In three of his defeats he has been beaten less than a length.

Uno Five meets a similar field on Saturday and Hill is happy the gelding has remained on the minimum weight.

"Uno Five is an honest trier but he just keeps running into one a bit better. Hopefully, his turn will be on Saturday," Hill said.

Hidden Light ran second to Sugarparma at the Gold Coast at her first start and Sugarparma franked the form by running fourth in the Group Three McLachlan Stakes last Saturday.

The two-year-old filly, owned by a syndicate headed by retired Gold Coast businessman Steve Foster, was then an unlucky third at Ipswich over 800m on Christmas Eve.

"She was slow to start and you just can't do that over 800 metres at Ipswich," Hill said.

Three-year-old filly Favoured Grace, who is also owned by Foster, has run into trouble in the straight at her past two starts.

"She should be suited on a big track and out to 1800 metres," Hill said.

He is a big fan of Orman who is leading both the Queensland and Brisbane senior riders premierships.

"I keep saying he is a senior rider with a 1-1/2 kilo claim who gives his mounts every chance," Hill said.
