Flamboyant Lass to bounce back in Guineas

Wednesday 6 January 2016, 12:32pm

Sydney filly Flamboyant Lass has taken to life on the Gold Coast and is expected to improve sharply in the Magic Millions Guineas on Saturday.

Flamboyant Lass was among the favourites for the Guineas before a disappointing eighth behind Flippant in the Magic Millions Stakes at Wyong on December 17.

She is now rated a $13 chance with most corporate bookmakers.

The filly, who was beaten just over a length when fifth in the Group One Flight Stakes last year, had won a Randwick barrier trial in good style going into the Wyong run.

Gai Waterhouse stable spokesman, Mark Newnham, said Flamboyant Lass had arrived on the Gold Coast 10 days ago and had gone well since.

"Gai got to the Coast on Sunday and watched her work. She was pleased with the way Flamboyant Lass went and James McDonald has taken the ride," Newnham said.

"Flamboyant Lass was a bit disappointing at Wyong but she seems to have got over the run without any lingering problems."

He said the prospects of a wet track were not against Flamboyant Lass' chances.

"She has won on a heavy track at Warwick Farm and was second in Listed company in the Reginald Allen Quality on a soft track.

"So the weather would hold no fears for us. The barrier (number 14) is no help but sometimes being on the fence is no help on wet days."

Flamboyant Lass, who cost $190,000 as a yearling, is raced by some of Waterhouse's best clients including members of the Gold Coast based Henderson family.

"Gai always likes to win races for them and especially on their home turf," Newnham said.

The Gold Coast was rated a heavy 9 on Wednesday after 53mm of rain soaked the track in the past two days.

However, course manager Steve Andrews is hopeful the track will get back to a soft five or good four by race day, provided there is no more rain.
