Apprentice Ben Thompson will have a low-key night despite landing his first metropolitan winner.
The son of leading greyhound trainer Jason Thompson, the youngster said he would be watching some racing on television after Sadaqua gave him a career highlight with victory at Caulfield on Saturday.
"We're a pretty close-knit family so I'll be sitting at home on the couch cheering dad's dogs home at The Meadows," Thompson said.
"Hopefully it's the start of a good day for the family."
Thompson was having his first ride at a Saturday metropolitan meeting and had Sadaqua ($5) on the speed throughout to claim a half-length win in a heat of the Swettenham Stud Championship.
The 19-year-old hadn't ridden a horse until April, 2012 and said he had been dreaming of getting to town since his first ride 18 months ago.
"In hindsight things have happened pretty quick," Thompson said.
"It feels like I've been doing it a long time, but I've been learning all the time.
"It's unbelievable. I think I'll be pinching myself for the next couple of days."
Thompson said he would not be resting on his laurels.
He has a couple of days off to let the achievement sink in before the hard work starts again.
"As they say, head down, bum up. I can get use to this feeling," he said.
