Rebel Dane back on track for trial

Monday 11 January 2016, 5:42pm

Group One winner Rebel Dane has been added to the second of two barrier trials for open class horses at Randwick having missed his heat when the session was called off at Warwick Farm.

Racing NSW stewards cancelled Monday's trials after one heat because there was no transport ambulance available.

Trainer Gary Portelli had hoped to run Rebel Dane against fellow Group One winners Boban, Press Statement and Vanbrugh in the first of 18 trials at Randwick on Tuesday but was forced to switch to keep his jockey.

"Brenton Avdulla is riding another horse in the first trial so they have put Rebel Dane in the second," Portelli said.

"I only got back from the Gold Coast this afternoon but the horse seems good and the reports from the staff all week have been positive."

The news isn't so good for the trainer's other Group One performer, Sebring Sun.

The Golden Rose third placegetter missed Saturday's $2 million Magic Millions Guineas after a below par performance when last of 11 in the Canterbury Classic on Boxing day.

"The chiropractor went over him again this morning and was not happy with his back end so he has gone out for a spell and won't be seen in the autumn," Portelli said.

The trainer hopes to give Rebel Dane another gallop between races at Randwick on Saturday before he heads to Melbourne.

His first assignment will be the Group Two Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley on January 23.

"After that the plan is the Orr Stakes three weeks later then the Futurity after that," Portelli said.

"All going well, we will then look at Sydney."

The 2013 Rupert Clarke Stakes winner hasn't raced since his third behind Chautauqua and Srikandi in the Manikato Stakes in October.
