Jockey Dean Holland and owner Peter Ferne have each been fined $200 for shaking hands at a race meeting in country Victoria.

Via a handshake before the jockey weighed in, Ferne handed Holland $100 note, a "sling" after Ready To Excel won at Stawell last Friday.

Holland and Ferne both pleaded guilty to a charge from Racing Victoria stewards for contact before correct weight was declared.

They were also told the interaction could impact on the image of racing.
