Two horses who ran the quinella in a Listed sprint during Melbourne Cup week are the market leaders for the Kensington Stakes at Flemington.
The Quarterback will be first-up on Saturday since winning the Dilmah Earl Grey Stakes on November 5 at Flemington where he beat the Mark Kavanagh-trained Wild Rain.
Wild Rain is the $3.80 favourite to turn the tables in Saturday's 1000m race with the Robbie Griffiths-trained gelding at $5.50.
The Quarterback, winner of three of his five starts over 1000m at Flemington, will be striving to win the Kensington Stakes for the second-straight year.
Griffiths is hoping to target the Oakleigh Plate and Newmarket Handicap with the sprinter this campaign.
Since her first-up second to The Quarterback in November on a heavy track, Wild Rain has continued through summer, winning the Listed Doveton Stakes (1000m) at Sandown before her last-start second in the Magic Millions Sprint at the Gold Coast.
