Glyn Schofield in significant appeal win

Friday 29 January 2016, 2:58pm

Glyn Schofield has had two weeks shaved from a suspension that threatened to derail the early part of the leading jockey's autumn carnival.

Stewards banned Schofield for five weeks after they found he stopped riding the Chris Waller-trained stayer Springbok Flyer in a race at Warwick Farm last week.

Springbok Flyer was beaten in a photo finish after leading to the closing stages and stewards found Schofield had put his whip away two strides before winning post.

But with the possible mount on Blue Diamond favourite Extreme Choice on the line, Schofield fronted the Racing NSW Appeals Panel on Friday.

The reduction will allow him to return to the saddle in time for the Lightning Stakes meeting at Flemington on February 20 and the Blue Diamond Stakes meeting at Caulfield on February 27.

Extreme Choice has occupied the top of Blue Diamond markets since Schofield rode the colt to an impressive Randwick win last month.

The suspension which ends on February 14, does however rule Schofield out of the scheduled return of multiple Group One winner Boban in the C F Orr Stakes at Caulfield a day earlier.
