Mossman Colt out of Nephtys- Kris Lees to train, $12,000 per 10% share

The Inglis Classic Sale continued the strong interest we have seen in our sales this year.  The average was well up and I would have to say the overall quality of yearlings on offer was good.  I managed to purchase three yearlings by Mossman, I  Am Invincible and Delago Deluxe.

I have had good success over the years buying from this sale with the last yearling I purchased there being the stakes winner Savoureux.  A couple of other very good horses I got from the sale were the Group 1 placed Under Command and Tasmanian Oaks winner Maha Chakri, the dam of Whittington.

I have been a big fan of Mossman from when I watched him race against Dignity Dancer.  If I ever have an association with another horse as brilliant as Dignity Dancer was as a three year old I will be a very lucky man.  Mossman didn’t beat Dignity Dancer as a three year old but was placed behind him in all three of the horse’s wins in the Victorian Triple Crown.  These were tough races and he may have been unlucky not to be awarded the Moonee Valley win on protest.

Two of my most promising three year olds are by Mossman, Reneged and Naranja.  These two horses have won recently for us and look to have very good careers ahead of them.  I have been on the lookout for a nice Mossman colt but the ones on offer simply didn’t grab my attention.  This fellow certainly did. Both Naranja and Reneged are really good looking bay horses and are out of well related mares as is this colt.  This colt is out of a Redoute’s Choice mare which is a great cross with ten of Mossman’s stakes winners out of Danehill line horses.  His best horse Buffering is out of an Anabaa mare with Anabaa being by Danehill’s sire Danzig.

I am a big fan of buying yearlings that are produced after a mare misses a year at stud.  This colt fits this bill and this is her best mating to date. He heads to Kris Lees who has done such a sterling job for us for over a decade.

Delago Deluxe filly out of Miss Cacciatore, Patrick Payne to train - $9,900 per 10% share

I have been really impressed with the progeny of Delago Deluxe at the sales so far this year and was on a couple at the Gold Coast Magic Millions but they went for too much.  They averaged $180,000 at the Gold Coast Magic Millions.

Delago Deluxe was a very good racehorse being unbeaten as a two year old.  He won Group 1 races at two and three and comes from a great female line.  Looks good to me.

As it has panned out I’m pleased I waited because the filly I purchased at the Inglis Classic Sale is a ripper and at the right price. She is also the first foal of a well related Snitzel mare.  Only eight daughters of Snitzel have had runners with one producing the Golden Slipper winner Mossfun.

This filly is out of a great running family with one of our very best horses Zero Drama appearing in the pedigree.  I hope she can be as good as he was but perhaps not as hard to handle.  I love having Oaks winners on the pedigree page and in this case the 3rd dam won the WA Oaks.  This all reads well to me with this filly being a standout.

I Am Invincible filly out of Light Waves, Darren Weir to train - $9,900 per 10% share

I Am Invincible simply keeps getting winners and their popularity through the sales ring is amazing but people want to buy winners and are prepared to really have a decent crack at them.  The filly pictured above is a beautiful filly.  She is very strong, has a great girth and is a very attractive horse.  She looks like a two year old to me and will be aimed at the early two year old races in Melbourne. She heads to Darren Weir who is now well established as Victoria’s leading trainer.

This filly comes from a nice running family and Light Waves has had one to run with it winning twice.  This is her 4th foal.  There were some very good horses on the pedigree page including Kingwin who was a very good galloper in Sydney.

I’m thrilled with these three purchases and they bring our yearling team to eleven.  I am planning to add just 15 yearlings to our team this year so I am almost there.

I will be in a position to get more information out on these three yearlings later in the week.  5% shares will be available in each of these yearlings.

A VERY SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY

Savabeel x On Broadway colt

I know many of our clients would love to become a part of the Syndicate to race the Savabeel / On Broadway colt but feel he is out of their reach. I have decided to form a syndicate to race 10% of the colt.  Shares will be 1% each @ $6,750 each with all costs up until 1 August covered.  He is by far the most expensive colt I have purchased at $561,000 incl GST.

He is a stunning horse that will be directed towards the classics with John Thompson to train him at Randwick.  He is a ¾ brother to Dowager Queen.

He has been paid up for the rich Magic Millions Series. Get in touch if you are interested in getting into him.

John Thompson inspected all the Savabeel yearlings on offer in NZ and said this colt would have been the most expensive had he gone through that sale.

ON THE TRACK

We had a nice week with Bella Venus scoring a strong win and Lomazzo put in an encouraging effort for third on resuming.  Soft and more to the point inconsistent tracks have been causing us some grief recently particularly in Sydney where Randwick hasn’t been at its best for some time.  Naranja went well yesterday but wasn’t well weighted against the older horses. He was beaten a nose.

We have quite a few runners over the next few days starting with More Than A Rose at Ipswich tomorrow as well as Raido at Warwick Farm.  On Thursday we see By Golly Molly heading to Hawkesbury.  On Friday Invincible Me will probably have his first start for Darren Weir at Echuca (also nominated for Yarra Valley on Saturday).  This will also be our first runner with Darren.

On Saturday Husson Eagle heads to Caulfield, Savoureux is nominated at Randwick and Awasita is in at Doomben but will need to draw well to head north.

Next Wednesday sees Tough Vic running in the Tasmanian Magic Millions Two Year Old Classic.  Maldicion will head to Tasmania for the Tasmanian Oaks.  The form around all of her races has been very strong.
