Multiple stakes winner Falino gets the chance to add another Listed race to his record with the prospect of a firm track at Doomben.

The eight-year-old has failed in two of three recent starts on soft surfaces but trainer Darren Bell is confident he will do better on top of the ground in Saturday's $100,000 Falvelon Quality (1200m).

"As he has got older he has developed a real aversion to shifty tracks although if you look back through his form he was once good on even heavy going," Bell said.

In between his two soft track runs this campaign, Falino finished midfield in the Bat Out of Hell at the Gold Coast on Boxing Day.

"I really felt he should have won the Bat Out of Hell," Bell said.

"He was really travelling well behind the pace and then couldn't get out."

"Then last start was a perfect example of what I am talking about. The track was just too shifty and he wouldn't stretch out."

The veteran sprinter has been a great money spinner for his owners, former bookmaker Fred Lanskey and his family, with a highlight his victory over Spirit Of Boom in the 2011 Group Three BTC Classic.

Falino has had several problems throughout his career and underwent a throat operation before he was transferred to Bell from Jeff Caught about three years ago.

Bell has won four races with Falino including the Listed Bribe Handicap during the last winter carnival.

"If the pace is on and if he can get into the right position on dry tracks he can really hit the line hard," Bell said.

"He has run a 56.3 seconds for 1000 metres coming off a hot pace and has broken 1.9 in winning over 1200 at Doomben. That shows just how fast he can finish."

Brad Stewart will ride Falino and Bell hopes he can get him into a good position from his awkward draw (7).

"It can be tricky from there but Brad has the knack of getting them into the right position so it shouldn't be too bad," he said.
