Richard Bensley is expected to be out of the saddle for some months but will not require surgery on injuries suffered in a fall at Canberra.
Bensley fractured his pelvis and also has suspected broken ribs from the fall on Sunday when his mount broke a leg.
Three other horses travelling behind could not avoid the incident with Winona Costin suffering mild concussion when she fell.
Sydney's premier apprentice, Costin was taken to hospital and released on Sunday night and has been declared for rides at Rosehill on Wednesday.
John Kissick and Robbie Brewer escaped unscathed.
Racing NSW medical officer Dr David Duckworth said Bensley was expected to remain in hospital for a few days before he was up and about on crutches with his recovery to take several months.
